Fixed mobile convergence
Fixed mobile convergence (FMC) allows companies to integrate dual mode WiFi and GSM handsets devices into the organisation allowing users to use the local data network when in reach of the coverage area and GSM when away from the organisation. FMC technology increases employee efficiency and productivity by providing its users with a single telephone number for both their fixed and mobile telephone devices and also minimises call costs ensuring that when in local area network coverage areas, long distance calls are made over the PSTN rather than via GSM.
This single-user, single number service means customers do not have to waste time dialling several numbers to reach the same person and business cards only carry one number. Customers have only one number to remember and call irrespective of where the member of staff is working from e.g. head office, home, remote office, car or even abroad.
FMC provides staff with an office-level service while away from their desks or on the move - employees can make calls via their local contact list, the company switchboard operator or from a remote corporate directory, as well as accessing business voicemail and taking advantage of call forwarding settings. Users can also utilise transfer, conference and hold/retrieve functions, exactly as if they were sat at their desks.
