With the Internet becoming an integral part of every business, it is vital that access to email, the web and other Internet services is fast and reliable. South West Communications Group understands the needs and high service levels demanded by today’s business community and has designed a portfolio of Internet access solutions that take into account the range of different Internet technologies available and their application to commercial requirements.

The Internet access solutions that South West Communications Group currently offers include:

Broadband (ADSL) - South West Communications Group offers three levels of business broadband service, namely Select, Advantage and Fusion, all of which offer up to 8Mb* of uncontended at exchange level Internet download speed (* subject to availability and distance from exchange). These uncontended services ensure that the bandwidth is dedicated to you alone, opposed to standard ADSL offerings where contention ratios of up to 20:1 are common place, meaning that you share your bandwidth with up to 19 other users.

South West Communications Group can seamlessly migrate customers from any other Internet service provider. Services can either be delivered on an existing PSTN line or via a new line provided by South West Communications Group which can be provisioned the same day as the ADSL circuit thus minimizing lead times (typically to 10 days).

All ADSL offerings include routers, static IP addresses, 24/7/365 telephone support together with service levels offering up to 8 clock hours best endeavors fix.

Unmanaged Internet leased lines - Depending on the nature of Internet traffic, it can be necessary to install dedicated Internet leased line connections which offer secure private connections directly to the Internet backbone delivering between 2-100Mb bandwidths. These leased lines provide full duplex which means that the full bandwidth is available both for upload and download. Moreover as this type of connection is based on leased line connectivity, the associated service levels far exceed those available with broadband.

Managed Internet access - As an Internet service provider (ISP), South West Communications Group can provide fully managed, resilient access to the Internet via its tier-4 networked Data Centre. As this is a managed service, we are able to flex the bandwidth on customer demand, report on bandwidth utilization and provide full firewall protection at cloud level protecting the integrity of your network.

We are also able to operate as a central hub to deliver centralized Internet access to multiple offices. Moreover where business drivers require, we can provide hosted web and mail servers at our Data Centre to facilitate a secure, resilient environment to ensure full access to the web at all times meaning that your website will never be offline.

Internet services - Common to all of the above means of connectivity, South West Communications Group offers anti-virus, anti-spam and content filtering services at cloud level which means that your bandwidth and network will not be affected by unwanted mail. The effect of keeping unwanted traffic off your Internet connections can be dramatic with one customer recently reporting a drop of 83 per cent in traffic after implementing anti-spam.

Flexible Internet bandwidth solutions - South West Communications Group offers 95% percentile bursting, whereby clients are able to contract to a pre agreed "fixed" base monthly bandwidth level but are always able to burst above this level as and when required throughout the month.

Clients will be charged an excess for the data that they use over and above their contracted amount less the top 5%. To calculate usage charges, a reading is taken from the network connection every five minutes and at the end of the month, the top 5% (which is approximately 36 hours of a 30-day billing cycle) of readings are removed and the next highest reading is the final chargeable figure.

This eliminates all the highest level spikes often seen in bandwidth graphs and by using this method, clients benefit by getting the highest bandwidth usage for 36 hours each month free of charge. Customers are able to choose to put restrictions on bandwidth availability and we can send them email alerts if customers exceed predefined thresholds.

Flexible bursting has also been introduced to customers with seasonal trends who have significant bursting requirements at specific times of the year and need the ability to do so. This means that they are able to minimse expenditure throughout the year but have the flexibility to have pre agreed bursting on a month by month basis to whatever level required - effectively a pay as you go solution.
