Dedication to green initiatives
South West Communications Group is dedicated to supporting green initiatives and ardently adheres to its own environmental and sustainability policies. Aside from these policies, South West Communications Group also maintains its dedication to looking for and supporting environmental initiatives, such as:
European Union Waste Electric & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive - South West Communications Group seeks to minimise the amount of electronic equipment being disposed of by recycling. Recycling reduces the holistic upstream environmental liabilities of disposal that are still incurred even through correct disposal under the WEEE Directive.
All reusable electrical equipment is stripped and stored for re-use at a later date as part of our ongoing business activities. Remaining equipment is again sorted into inert material not covered under WEEE such as metal cabinets that can be recycled by very traditional means. Again, this reduces the environment liability of disposal relating to the more hazardous electrical elements.
Any unusable electrical equipment e.g. PCBs, are disposed of via licensed operators that make only bulk collections rather than more smaller regular collections to reduce road traffic.
Packaging reduction - All incoming packaging is recycled and used for outgoing packaging as part of the ongoing business activities of the company. Where packaging exceeds the requirements of the company, then it is separated, sorted and dispatched to our recycling contractors.
Energy and emissions reduction - The following are specific initiatives used throughout the Group to drive down energy related emissions:-
Purchase of the most efficient engine types to suit the needs of the business
Vehicle route planning to reduce wasteful and unnecessary journeys
Purchase of the most energy efficient ITC equipment to suit the needs of the business
Purchase of the most efficient air conditioning equipment to suit the needs of the business
Increased use of remote and centralised working to deliver solutions to customers without the need for vehicle journeys
Energy switch off initiatives to reduce wasteful energy consumption when not needed e.g. PCs, lights and air conditioning
